1 person dead after targeted shooting in Vaughan

York Regional Police say one person has died after a shooting in Vaughan on Monday afternoon.

Police received several calls for gunfire at a plaza on Weston Road and Colossus Drive, near Highway 7 and Highway 400, shortly after 1 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found a male who had been shot multiple times in the parking lot of a business. He was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died.

Police describe the suspect vehicle involved as a black SUV, but no further details are available at this time.

Less than an hour later, police received an additional call for a vehicle fire near Kipling Avenue, just north of Woodbridge Avenue. A black SUV was also seen fleeing that scene and police are working to determine if the fire is related to the shooting.

Police believe the shooting to be targeted and say there is no threat to public safety.
