Days after law enforcement descended on a San Diego, California, property to search for human remains, authorities said the search is over and one set of human remains was found.
The remains were discovered at the property in the Southcrest neighborhood on Tuesday when investigators served a search warrant, San Diego police and prosecutors said. The search continued on Wednesday, and at that time, it was unclear whether there were remains of multiple people.
The identity of the one person recovered is not known, the San Diego County District Attorney’s office said on Friday.
An autopsy will be conducted, the DA’s office said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
Dwight William Rhone, 74, who previously lived at the property, is a person of interest in the ongoing investigation, the DA’s office said earlier this week.
Rhone is currently in custody on homicide charges in connection with a man’s 2023 murder, prosecutors said.
Authorities have not said if that homicide case is connected to the search at the San Diego property.
