2 killed, 4 injured in wrong-way crash on 134 Freeway in Pasadena​on January 6, 2025 at 10:57 am

PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) — Two people were killed and four were injured Sunday in a wrong-way crash on the 134 Freeway in Pasadena, authorities said.

It happened along the westbound lanes at North San Rafael Avenue just after 8 a.m.

According to California Highway Patrol reports, a vehicle entered the freeway from the San Rafael Avenue off-ramp and proceeded to go eastbound in the westbound lanes, near the 210 Freeway at Fair Oaks Avenue.

Lisa Derderian, a public information officer for the city of Pasadena, told Eyewitness News at least four vehicles were involved in the collision.

She said the wrong-way driver was one of the two people killed, though their identity has not been released.

Derderian said the wrong-way driver was the only person in their vehicle at the time of the crash.

Another person died while on the way to the hospital, but that victim has also not yet been identified.

Meanwhile, three other people suffered moderate injuries and one person suffered only minor injuries.

Derderian said some of the victims included a mom and her teenage daughter and a father and his teenage son. Their exact conditions, however, weren’t immediately released.

The area was closed for several hours as California Highway Patrol officers cleared area. ABC7 captured at least three wrecked vehicles on the side of the road.

One witness reported seeing a vehicle on fire at the time of the crash.

A helicopter used thermal imaging to make sure no one was ejected from the cars.

The incident remains under investigation.
