SEAGOVILLE, Texas — A man is facing a murder charge for allegedly shooting and killing another man Sunday morning, police say.
The Seagoville Police Department says the victim was walking down the 2000 block of Canterbury Drive around 11:30 a.m. Sunday when a black sedan drove by. The driver of that sedan turned onto the next street, Fountain Drive, and stopped in the middle of the road before exiting his car with a rifle and shooting at the victim, SPD says.
The department says the victim then fired back before running away, but was eventually shot by the suspect.
The suspect, who police identified as 51-year-old Larry Robertson, of Seagoville, tried to flee in the sedan, but responding officers caught him, SPD says. Seagoville PD said Robertson was the only occupant of the car, and officers found a loaded rifle in the sedan.
“My kids looked out the window and saw the guy shooting,” one neighbor named Taneisha told WFAA.
One of the bullets went through her daughter’s bedroom window.
“Everything could have gone a different way, so I’m thankful my baby’s alive,” she said.
When police arrived, SPD says they found the victim lying on the ground, bleeding with clear gunshot wounds. Another person was trying to perform lifesaving measures on the man before officers took over, police say. Eventually, SPD says an ambulance arrived and took the man to a hospital, where he died.
Another neighbor, Tabitha, called finding the victim “a devastating moment.”
“I tried to revive him but he didn’t, you know…” she told WFAA.
The two women said the man who died was *young, probably just a teenager. “ I felt like it was my own kid, you know,” Tabitha continued.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
According to police, officers booked Robertson into the Seagoville Holding Facility, where he faces a murder charge.
