ALERT began investigating in December 2024 after receiving information about the suspect’s involvement in drug trafficking activities.

The law enforcement agency’s organized crime team worked with CPS to make the seizure at the Beltline-area apartment building on Feb. 6. The suspect, an alleged fentanyl dealer, was arrested at a traffic stop near his home and his vehicle was searched.

In total, ALERT seized 1,547 grams of fentanyl, worth an estimated $150,000 if sold at street value. ALERT also seized 49 grams of suspected benzodiazepine — often used as a fentanyl buffing agent — and $17,550 cash.

As a result of the search and seizure, Bolutife Opeodu, 29, is charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime.

Opeodu remains in custody and was set to appear in court on Tuesday.

Since 2006, ALERT’s work to disrupt the fentanyl trade has resulted in the seizure of more than $989 million in illicit drugs, including approximately 95 kilograms of processed fentanyl powder(s) intended for sale, more than 276,000 fentanyl pills and over 10,000 kilograms of fentanyl precursors, chemicals and buffing agents used in the drug’s production.
