One simple solution for balancing the education budget in Alberta and helping solve the current employee problem: Stop duplicating the spending on similar systems. Combine the public and Catholic school programs into one public system devoted to the three Rs in teaching. No more religion in our school system. Religion should be taught at home by parents or by religious scholars in places of worship. No more charter schools or private schools unless the parents are prepared to teach the three Rs and pay 100% of the cost. No more doubling up of schools, teachers, boards, management and other workers. One system one cost. I think the taxpayers would be happy with one public educational system.

Ken Iskiw

(There would be a lot of unhappy parents.)

Pipeline plan

Perhaps the most persuasive argument for Energy East could be the imposition of a ban on all tanker traffic on the East Coast and St. Lawrence.  After all, exactly the same as the West Coast ban.  Save those whales?

(It may force the debate.)

Fix AISH

Re: “Lots to be excited about in Alberta’s new disability assistance program,” Cam Tait, Feb. 9. As a person with a disability, and a disability rights advocate, I am very disappointed by this article. The Alberta Disability Assistance Program announced last week left many in the disability community confused and scared about their future. If the government truly wanted to help the 77,000 Albertans who rely on AISH, why not just fix AISH? Why not pass accessibility legislation first? Why not consult us first?

Arrogant and dismissive

So we have a party that has no qualms sacrificing Canada for the survival of their party. Blame Trump all you want, but the people supporting the Liberal Party and NDP can take the blame for where we are today. We’ve had a decade to increase our military spending, increase border security, and vet our immigration including education visas. Our leaders treated requests to increase defence and tighten immigration security with arrogance and dismissal. Where do people think we should be.

Norm Krentz

(The Trudeau Liberals have left our country in a vulnerable position with policies that didn’t control our border, halted resource development and hurt our economy.)
