A Calgary man is facing multiple charges in relation to reports from three teenage victims believed to be sexually assaulted by the same man.

In March 2024, one victim, a 15-year-old girl, and two friends were befriended by a man at Calgary’s Central Library. The three teens left the library with the man in his car and drove around downtown. Police say the man offered the girls drugs.

The two friends eventually left the vehicle, leaving the victim alone with the man. He offered her a ride home, according to a Calgary Police Service news release, but made an unexpected stop in a northwest Calgary parking lot where he inappropriately touched the victim.

She was eventually dropped off at her residence and reported the incident to police several weeks later.

A second victim, who was 13 at the time of the incident, came forward to police in the spring of 2024. She reported two occasions where she met the suspect downtown and spent time with him in hotels. Police say he touched her inappropriately, sexually assaulted her and offered her drugs.

A CPS Child Abuse Unit investigation into the incidents revealed a third victim who recently reported a February 2024 sexual assault by the same man. Her report claims the man befriended her downtown, took her to a hotel room and sexually assaulted her while offering drugs.

As a result of the investigation, Abdulsatar Amad Luhar, 47, has been charged with three counts of sexual assault, three counts of sexual interference and one count of obtaining sexual services from a minor.

Luhar is in custody and is due to appear in court on Feb. 25.

“Thank you to our investigators that have arrested and charged a man who is believed to be taking advantage of teenage girls by befriending them and engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct with them,” said Staff Sgt. Darren Smith of the CPS Child Abuse Unit in a statement.

“These types of incidents are very concerning for the community, and I want to commend the teens for coming forward to police to report the incidents that occurred. There is no statute of limitations on reporting sexual offences in Canada and we encourage anyone who has been the victim of a serious crime to report it, even if many years have passed since the incident.”

The victims have been offered support through The LUNA Child and Youth Advocacy Centre.

Police encourage anyone who believes they are a victim of sexual assault to report it regardless of when it occurred, and anyone with information about these, or similar incidents, is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234.
