Good afternoon. Pakistan says at least 26 civilians, including a child, have been killed and 46 injuredinside Pakistan. It was a dramatic escalation in a long-simmering conflict between the two nuclear armed neighbours.

Pakistan declared the strikes to be an “act of war” and claimed it had shot down five Indian air force jets in what it called a “befitting reply”. India had accused Pakistan of involvement in an attack on Hindu tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir last month which killed 26 people.

The Australian government has issued a warning against travelling to Pakistan after the missile attack, and has also warned Australians to exercise a high degree of caution if travelling to India. Follow the latest developments in our live blog.
