No one was injured inside the residence
ANTIOCH — A 40-year-old man was arrested Thursday after he sped away from a traffic stop and crashed into an occupied home in Antioch, according to authorities.
Around 9 a.m., an officer was patrolling in the area of East 18th Street and Cavallo Road when he spotted an Infiniti with several vehicle code violations, Antioch police Lt. Joe Njoroge said in a news release.
The officer stopped the Infiniti, but as soon as he stepped out of his patrol car, the driver sped away southbound on Cavallo Road, Njoroge said. The officer did not give chase “due to public safety concerns,” the lieutenant said.
The driver lost control of the car and crashed into a home near Garrow Drive and East Tregallas Road, Njoroge said. He then ran through several yards before being taken into custody.
No one inside the home was injured.
Njoroge said the driver was taken to a hospital and later booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on an arrest warrant and charges including reckless evading, felon in possession of a firearm and hit-and-run.
