At least 13 people died and more than 93 were injured after a roof fell at a discotheque in the capital of the Dominican Republic, authorities said.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — At least 18 people died and at least 101 were injured after a roof fell at a discotheque in the capital of the Dominican Republic early Tuesday, authorities said.

The National Police and Presidential office told ABC News the incident happened around 12:34 a.m.

The agency also noted that foreign nationals were attending the event for a local music artist, merengue singer Rubby Pérez. Officials have confirmed Pérez has one of the injured.

Nelsy Cruz, the governor of Montecristi — a province in the Dominican Republic — was confirmed dead in the incident.

Crews were searching for potential survivors in the rubble at Jet Set, said Juan Manuel Méndez, director of the Center of Emergency Operations.

“We presume that many of them are still alive, and that is why the authorities here will not give up until not a single person remains under that rubble,” he said.

The cause of the roof collapse is under investigation.
