Two suspects, both known to police, have been arrested after separate weekend attacks on bus drivers.

On Saturday afternoon, Metro Vancouver Transit Police were called about a woman who boarded a bus in White Rock and pointed a gun at the driver.

Officers from the Surrey RCMP support unit were first to arrive and Transit Police followed soon after. The suspect was arrested and the firearm, which was determined to be a replica, was seized.

In an unrelated incident Sunday evening, a man boarded three buses in New Westminster within a few minutes and threatened the drivers and tried to assault them.

With help from New Westminster police officers, Transit Police arrested the man before he could board any more buses.

“The suspects from both incidents are known to police,” said Sgt. Dustin Szakacs in a statement. “One has been released on conditions and the other remains in custody.”

In an update, Szakacs said police are recommending charges of pointing a firearm and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose against a 46-year-old Surrey woman.

And a 46-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with uttering threats, two counts of assault and mischief.

Szakacs said reducing workplace violence is a key priority for Transit Police. “Transit employees work hard to keep the transit system moving. When their safety is threatened, Transit Police take it seriously, investigate fully, and will always strive to make sure that the individual involved is held accountable to the fullest extent possible.”

Langley RCMP officers responded to three suspicious fires in the wee hours on Tuesday.

At about 3:15 p.m., police were called to a fire at a home in the 19900-block of 76th Avenue.

As the Township of Langley Fire Department arrived, a second home was reported to be on fire in the same neighbourhood. And at about 5:30 a.m., a third home was reported on fire in the 6900-block of 204th Street.

Police have confirmed all three residences were abandoned and were slated for demolition.

All three fires are being investigated and, because of their proximity to each other, are being treated as suspicious, said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom of Langley RCMP.

Anyone who was travelling in the area between 3 and 6 a.m. Tuesday and has dashcam footage is asked to call police at 604-532-3200.
