“Dawson Creek was such a good professional experience. We were asked to consider coming back – and we’re going to take the plunge again,” Sharma said this summer.
The reaction in the community was swift upon hearing of Dr. Sharma’s return.
“I think it is great news for Dawson Creek and our area,” said resident Ted Sandhu.
The announcement comes amidst more than 20 weeks of no Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB-GYN) services in Dawson Creek. The city’s most recent OB-GYN left the community in spring 2025, arriving in July 2024.
South Peace B.C. MLA for the area Larry Neufeld said the 2025 situation was unsafe for Dawson Creek and South Peace expectant mothers.
“This isn’t just a service gap. It’s a serious risk to women and families in our region. Expecting mothers with complications are being forced to travel to Fort St. John for proper care. That’s not sustainable, and it’s not safe.”
Dr. Sandeep has more than 30 years of experience in caring for women with high-risk pregnancies and performing a wide range of surgical procedures.
