HOUSTON, Texas — A Houston designer is transforming closet cast-offs and thrift store finds into amazing upcycled fashion.
Angelina McCullar is the creator of Blueprint DIY, a YouTube channel devoted to creating your own thrifty, repurposed fashion looks.
“Blueprint DIY is a way for me to share my love of remaking clothes, whether it’s small alterations or complete remakes,” said Angelina. “I started Blueprint DIY 12 years ago on YouTube after seeing some girls on there going thrifting or taking clothes out of their closet and doing small alterations. My mom taught me how to sew when I was eight, so I figured everybody needed to know about this. They needed the power to make their clothes fit or to completely remake them to suit their style and their personality.”
Her YouTube channel, which has now grown to over 466,000 subscribers, inspired Angelina to create her own streetwear line, Blueprint Signature.
“We sell everything from bags to skirts, jogger pants, backpacks, very unique pieces,” she said. “Blueprint DIY and Blueprint Signature come together to be a whole package, so that it serves people who love fashion and also people who are crafty and want to make fashion.”
She also recently released her first book, The Impatient Beginner’s Guide to Sewing, which includes QR codes that link to online video tutorials.
“It may seem like just fashion, but it’s more than fashion,” said Angelina. “When you actually have garments that suit your own style and your own personality, it makes a world of difference.”
