A desperate search for a six-year-old girl who went missing on Sunday afternoon has ended in tragedy after a body was found in bushland.
The girl was last seen wearing a pink jumpsuit and no shoes at 2.15pm in North Nowra, near Shoalhaven.
When she could not be found, officers from the south coast police district were called and immediately began searching for her.
Family members held serious concerns for the girl’s welfare because of her young age and a number of medical conditions, NSW Police said in an urgent appeal for assistance on Sunday afternoon.
Police described her as Caucasian in appearance with black eyes, a slim build, and blonde-brown hair she wore in a ponytail.
A body was found in bushland near North Nowra at about 6pm. It is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be that of the missing girl.
Police have commenced inquiries into the death and will prepare a report for the coroner.
