Suspect in parking-lot incident remains at large
HILLSBOROUGH — Authorities are investigating a reported shooting incident near Hillsborough Town Hall and the adjacent police station on Floribunda Avenue.
“We are investigating an officer-involved shooting in our parking lot,” the Hillsborough Police Department posted Saturday evening on social media. “The suspect remains at large.”
A large search operation, with assistance from the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, is taking place, the department said. Police urge residents to avoid the area.
According to an updated press release from the Hillsborough police, an officer was shot by a suspect who entered the station’s rear lot. The unknown suspect immediately opened fire, striking the officer, who then returned fire. The suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction, and it remains unclear whether the officer’s return fire struck the subject.
The officer was taken to the San Francisco General Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
The scene remains active as tactical teams search the area for the suspect.
