(KRON) — One of the more established Asian grocery chains in Canada is coming to the Bay Area. T&T Supermarket is opening its first California location in San Jose this fall, the retailer announced in a press release.
T&T Supermarket will be at the Westgate Center on 1600 Saratoga Ave. It takes over the former space of a Walmart that opened back in 2012. T&T will be located between Ross and Target at the shopping center — with the “49ers Fit” gym adjacent.
No target opening date has been announced, a T&T Supermarket spokesperson told KRON4. Although the opening is “still some time away,” T&T plans to launch an online shopping service in California for select products.
T&T Supermarket will sell a wide selection of authentic Asian products, a full-service meat counter, live seafood tanks and a variety of ready-to-eat items, the press release states. Food options include a BBQ counter, noodle station, dim sum, a bakery and a made-to-order Chinese crepe station.

The decision to open in San Jose stems, in part, from T&T Supermarket CEO Tina Lee’s ties to the Bay Area. Lee’s aunt lives in nearby Saratoga and has spent many summers in the South Bay. The area “brings back great memories.”
“We aim to create a destination,” Lee said in the press release. “We want to evolve our grocery store beyond the functional – we want to be the place where people want to go, not just need to go. We can’t wait to share that with the people of the Bay Area. San Jose is a very special place to me. My aunt lives in Saratoga, and I have spent many summers there. It brings back great memories. This store is for her.”

The San Jose T&T Supermarket will create close to 200 jobs locally, according to the press release. Other recent businesses to open at Westgate Center include Mendocino Farms, which opened this month, and a Shake Shack that opened last October.
T&T Supermarket is referred to as “Canada’s favorite Asian grocery retailer,” the press release states. The supermarket says it is the largest Asian grocery store chain in Canada. It was founded in 1993 in Vancouver and now operates more than 33 stores across British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec.
The two other locations in the United States are both in Washington: Bellevue and Lynnwood. The former opened at the end of 2024, and the latter is set to open sometime this year.
