A case has been registered against Congress Rajya Sabha MP Imran Pratapgarhi in Gujarat’s Jamnagar for a video he posted on social media, which was allegedly communal and inflammatory in nature, police said on Saturday.
As per a complaint filed with the police, the former Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Gujarat Assembly attended a mass wedding in Jamnagar recently.
Pratapgarhi, from his X handle, shared a video of himself attending the event with a song in the background, which reportedly carried communally-charged lyrics.
The FIR states that the song featured in the video uses some objectionable and inflammatory terms that did not go down well with social media users, who reacted strongly to the Congress leader’s post.
The complainant alleged that Imran Pratapgarhi’s post incited communal violence and hatred, flaring the religious sentiments of people.
Taking cognisance of the complaint, Jamnagar Police has registered a case against Pratapgarhi under Section 57 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
