CCTV footage has been released showing three men leaving their vehicles for a hurried conversation around the time a grandmother was shot dead in the middle of the night in a drive-by attack on her Sydney home.

Kim Duncan, 65, was killed when a hail of gunfire tore through her home in Ambarvale, in Sydney’s south-west, just after 11pm on April 14.

NSW Police are appealing for more information from the public after releasing footage of two vehicles, a white SUV and a blue sedan, seen leaving the area shortly after the shooting.

In the footage, two men are seen exiting the white SUV after it parks by the side of the road, while another exits the blue sedan. The three appear to have a brief discussion before returning to their vehicles and driving off separately.

When police arrived at the property on Dickens Road after the shooting, they found Duncan had been hit once in the thigh and collapsed on her living room floor in a pool of blood. NSW Ambulance paramedics and police could not save her.

The next day, at least half a dozen bullet holes could be seen on the front of the house. More than a dozen evidence markers were laid from where the shots were believed to have been fired.

Police forensics and detectives, supported by the homicide squad, were told by witnesses that multiple men had stepped out of a dark sedan and opened fire on the Dickens Road home.

NSW Police Detective Superintendent Grant Healey described the shooting as “abhorrent” and labelled the shooters “cowards”.

“It’s tragic. Your mother and the grandmother of your children’s been shot by cowards that stood out the front of her house,” he said. Duncan had only lived at the house for between six and eight weeks.

Two other people in the home – Duncan’s 34-year-old son and a 21-year-old woman – were uninjured. It is not clear who was the target of the shooting.

Neighbour Shaun Burridge told Sunrise: “When we first come out, the son was in the backyard screaming out that his mum’s just been shot, so he was pretty terrified and, yeah, looks lost.”

Strike Force Apslawn has been launched to investigate the shooting. Police have described the first man as Caucasian, about 180 centimetres tall with thin build, and in his 30s. They say the second is Middle Eastern in appearance, about 185 centimetres tall with an athletic build, and also in his 30s.

The third is described as Pacific Islander in appearance, about 180 centimetres tall with a large build, and in his 20s.

Police have urged anyone with information about the men or the vehicles, including dashcam or CCTV footage, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
