Chicago and surrounding areas under cold weather advisory until noon Tuesday​on February 18, 2025 at 2:02 pm

Chicago and the surrounding areas remain under a cold weather advisory as dangerously below zero wind chills could cause frostbite within 30 minutes of exposure.

The advisory remains in effect until noon Tuesday in portions of central, east central and north central Illinois, as well as northwest Indiana.

Officials warned commuters to use caution while outside and recommended wearing appropriate clothing, including hats and gloves.

The area has been experiencing frigid conditions in recent days. The National Weather Service warned of “life-threatening cold” as windchills dropped in 11 states, and was expected to be the coldest Tuesday.

Temperatures are expected to hover in the single digits into midweek, officials said.

Current morning conditions at O’Hare International Airport are partly cloudy at negative 5 degrees with a windchill of negative 21. At Midway Airport, the temperature was negative 2 with a windchill of negative 19 degrees.

A high temperature of 12 degrees was expected Tuesday. Wind chill values as low as -9 by the night hours, officials said,
