Chicago Teachers Union members vote in favor of CPS contract​on April 14, 2025 at 9:45 pm

CHICAGO (WLS) — The Chicago Teachers Union announced members overwhelmingly voted to approve a contract with Chicago Public Schools Monday.

Chicago Teachers Union leaders called it an historic landmark contract, with a whopping 97% – voting in favor of the tentative agreement.

This vote brought out an unprecedented 85% turnout from union members, which is very high participation, according to CTU.

This is the first Chicago Teachers Union contract without a strike in more than a decade.

The four-year deal includes: pay raises, increased staffing, new class size limits, more funding for sports, and additional staff positions like librarians, nurses, and social workers.

After more than 11 months of bargaining, CPS says it offers teachers the highest annual raises in more than 13 years and offers transformational advancements for its students.

The union says the deal is the “next step toward transforming our schools.”

“What we’re fighting for community schools, places where families have an opportunity to have agency with the teachers, the administrators, the students the community,” CTU President Stacey Davis-Gates. “We tripled more than triple that in this contract because we are rebuilding what was stripped away through closings and consolidations and privatization. This contract is a rebuild.”

From here, the contract now heads to the CPS Board for final approval.
