City Lights Theater Company stages Valentine’s Day fundraiser​on February 2, 2025 at 2:51 pm

Concert features big band Nineteen, vocalists from past shows.

A musical Valentine

Theater lovers can spend the evening of Feb. 14 listening to Big Band music while supporting City Lights Theater Company.
City Lights is teaming up with Nineteen, San Jose’s professional Big Band, for “I Heart City Lights.” Actors will take the stage to perform romantic tunes, accompanied by bandleader/bassist Gus Kambeitz and his band members.

Vocalists include Bart Perry and Karen DeHart from “Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show,” AJ Jaffari from “Kinky Boots,” Caitlin Papp from “Fun Home” and Mary Melnick from “Truce: A Christmas Wish from the Great War.”

Doors open at 7 p.m. for a preshow reception, and the music starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25-$90 at https://cltc.org/event/heart.

Young Writers Contest

Jack London State Historic Park is accepting entries for its 10th annual Young Writers Contest for sixth- through-eighth-grade students. Entries should be short stories about a group of friends on a camping trip who get stranded in the wilderness and discover a mysterious set of footprints.

For contest rules and entry forms, visit https://jacklondonpark.com/annual-young-writers-contest. The contest closes at 11:59 p.m. on March 31, and winners will be announced by April 21. Prizes are $300, $200 and $150 for first, second and third place, respectively.
