TERRELL, Texas — Terrell officials on Tuesday requested that several businesses shelter in place after a construction crew hit a gas line near a Walmart, according to the Terrell Fire Department.

Tuesday morning, a construction crew hit an Atmos Energy gas line near 205 Walton Way in Terrell, Atmos Energy said in a press release. The crew was doing work unrelated to Atmos Energy, according to the press release.

No businesses were evacuated, but they were asked to shelter in place while Atmos crews worked to clamp off the leak, the department said. Vehicles in the nearby Walmart parking lot were not allowed to leave due to windy conditions and safety concerns, the release states.

By noon, the leak was clamped off and vehicles were allowed to leave the area, the release states.

Atmos Energy technicians are on the scene making necessary repairs, the release states.
