Durham Regional Police said officers responded to an assault call Saturday at about noon at the Ajax Public Library, on Harwood Ave., where a female victim was studying before being approached by an unknown woman.
Police said an attacker allegedly began yelling profanities at the victim, threw objects at her head and tried to remove her hijab while pouring an unknown liquid on it. The woman then allegedly tried to light the hijab on fire with a lighter before the victim screamed for help.

Security intervened and the assailant fled from the library before being taken into custody later without incident.

Kaley-Ann Freier was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and three counts of failure to comply with a probation order.
COPS PROBING TTC SEX ASSAULT
Police have released a new photo of a suspect accused of sexually assaulting a female on a TTC bus.
Toronto Police said officers investigated sexual assault on March 7 at about 5 p.m. at Finch Station, where the victim had boarded a bus. A man sat beside the victim at the back of the bus and allegedly sexually assaulted her before exiting near Yonge St. and Athabaska Ave.
The suspect is pictured above. Police urged anyone with information to call 416-808-3200.
Toronto Police are trying to locate this man as part of an assault investigation.

A man is wanted after a restaurant assault last month in the High Park area.
Toronto Police said they responded to an assault call on Feb. 20 in the Roncesvalles-Howard Park Aves. area. Police said a man entered a restaurant and allegedly assaulted the victim with a weapon before heading south along Roncesvalles.
The victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect is a 30-40-year-old man who is about 5-foot-9 with a medium build and bald. He was last seen wearing a grey jacket, a light-coloured hooded sweater and black pants.
