DALLAS — The finalists for two of the most important jobs in Dallas — police and fire chief — will participate in a series of meetings this week as city leaders work to select their preferred candidate.
Following a nationwide search, Dallas City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert has selected five finalists to be considered for the Chief of Police position, the city said in a press release. The city paid $75,000 to hire Public Sector Search & Consulting, Inc. (PSSC) to conduct to search for the city’s next top cop, WFAA previously reported. The final candidates were narrowed down from a list of 25 law enforcement executives.
The finalists are:
- Roberto Arredondo, Jr. – Chief of Police, Carrollton Police Department
- Brian Boetig, Assistant Director (Ret.), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
- Daniel C. Comeaux -Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DEA) Houston Field Division
- Michael T. Igo – Interim Chief of Police, Dallas Police Department
- Catrina M. Shead – Assistant Chief, Dallas Police Department
All five candidates will participate in a series of meetings, including a meet and greet with the public, this week. Tolbert is expected to make a final decision in the second week of April, the release states.
The finalists will attend the following events:
- Monday, March 31: 4:00-5:00 p.m., Meet & Greet with the City Council at City Hall
- Monday, March 31: 5:30-6:30 p.m., Meet & Greet with members of the feedback panels at City Hall
- Tuesday, April 1: 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m., feedback panels, which include community representatives, law enforcement experts, and city officials.
- Tuesday, April 1: 6-7:30 p.m., Public Meet & Greet at City Hall in the lobby
- Wednesday, April 2: Meetings with Tolbert and senior and executive leadership
“Through the next step in this process, we will gain valuable insight into each candidate’s vision for continuing to make Dallas one of the safest large cities in the U.S., how they plan to attract and retain top talent, and innovate within the department,” Tolbert said.
Dallas Fire-Rescue Chief
Tolbert selected four candidates to interview for Chief of Dallas Fire-Rescue after a local and regional search, the city said in a press release. Thirty-two people applied for the position, the city said.
“Dallas Fire-Rescue is a leader in the nation with innovative programs that provide emergency and medical services for all of whom we serve,” Tolbert said. “DFR contributes to making Dallas one of the safest large cities in the country, and I am certain we have finalists who can continue to propel it forward.”
The finalists for the job are:
- Todd Alt, Assistant Chief, Tampa, Florida Fire Rescue
- Justin Ball, Interim Fire Chief, Dallas Fire-Rescue
- Raymond Hill, Executive Assistance Chief, Fort Worth Fire Department
- Samuel Peña, Former Fire Chief, Houston Fire Department
The finalists will participate in the following meetings this week:
- City Council: Thursday, April 3, 4:00-5:00 PM (Flag Room)
- Stakeholders: Thursday, April 3, 5:30-6:30 PM (Flag Room)
