We expect a few hours of snow in New York City and over much of the area.
As warmer air moves in, the snow will change to sleet and freezing rain, ultimately to all rain.
The farther north you live, the longer that changeover will take – so more snow!

Brittany Bell has the AccuWeather forecast.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Tri-State area.
Accumulations will range from a coating to 2 inches in New York City and up to 4 inches north and west, with higher elevations getting the most.
On top of the snow, some areas could receive about a tenth of an inch of ice, making for hazardous driving conditions.
Alternate side parking is suspended in New York City on Thursday.
DSNY brined both car and bike lanes on Wednesday and planned to begin salt operations early Thursday. More than 700 salt spreaders are filled and ready to go. Combining brine and salt will limit the accumulation of snow and ice accretion.
There is no anticipated change to collection operation, and New Yorkers should continue to follow their regular schedule for trash, recycling, and compostable material unless otherwise notified.
In New Jersey, the Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has issued a commercial vehicle travel restriction on multiple Interstate highways in the state starting at midnight on Thursday.
The commercial vehicle travel restriction will be in place until further notice for the following highways in both directions: I-78, I-80, I-280, I-287, for the entire length, and NJ Route 440, from the Outerbridge Crossing to I-287. The commercial vehicle travel restriction applies to: all tractor trailers, empty straight CDL-weighted trucks, passenger vehicles pulling trailers, recreational vehicles and motorcycles. In addition to the commercial restrictions, all motorists are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel on Thursday morning.
That storm will be out of the area by early afternoon. Roads will be just wet for the evening commute but still icy well north and west of the city.
After a brisk day on Friday, another storm moves into the area on Saturday. It will be a repeat performance later Saturday into Sunday morning.
The extended outlook looks colder with a series of storms. The first one on Tuesday night into Wednesday looks snowier.
