Donald Trump sticks out like a sore thumb in blue suit at Pope’s funeral

Trust Donald Trump to be the front and centre for all the wrong reasons at a solemn event that has commanded the attention of the world.

That event is Pope Francis’ funeral, which took place in St Peter’s Square in Vatican City on Saturday, April 26.

As a general rule of thumb, mourners wear all black attire to pay their respects to the deceased.

In this instance, this mark of respect is arguably even more important, taking into consideration that the world is mourning the loss of the Head of the Catholic Church.

Yet, President Trump stuck out like a sore thumb, wearing a striking blue suit amongst a sea of black-clothed people. The ever-fashionable Melania, meanwhile, got the memo as she turned out in a fitted black trench coat, black stilettos and a black veil.

One X user wrote: ‘In a sea of black suits, Donald Trump wears a blue one,’ as another tweeted: ‘Donald Trump – the only blue suit in a sea of black. Sums him up really.’

A third pondered: ‘Any reason why Donald Trump is in a blue suit and not wearing traditional black for a funeral.’

Another outraged user wrote: ‘It is only Donald Trump that doesn’t recognise on-point attire. Wearing dark blue, not black, he has to stand out. Shame that Melania, who is Catholic, hasn’t been able to teach her husband manners. This is a funeral and the Pope.’

Elsewhere, President Trump was branded a ‘quintessential narcissist’ as he told Fox News he felt it was important to attend the Pope’s funeral ‘out of respect’ as he ‘won the Catholic vote’.

‘I think that was the first time that ever happened, that a Republican won the [Catholic] vote, and I won it by a lot. I have a great relationship with the Catholics – it’s very simple, what do you think?’

‘I won the Catholic vote, I got 56 per cent of the vote. I don’t know why we didn’t get more, actually, I don’t know how [the Democrats] got any. We did well with the Catholic vote, and my relationship is very good so therefore I think it’s appropriate [to attend the funeral], he continued.

Other world leaders at Pope Francis’ funeral included King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain, President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins and his wife Sabina, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
