Chicago Bulls fans may have noticed something different at the United Center during Monday’s win over the Indiana Pacers — the team’s six championship banners were missing from the rafters.
The banners were removed for cleaning following Saturday’s concert featuring Disturbed, Three Days Grace and Sevendust at the arena. The show included theatrics on stage such as pyrotechnics, based on photos and videos of the event posted on social media. All six banners are expected to be returned without issue to the rafters by Thursday’s game, per a team source.
The Bulls display banners celebrating their six NBA championships — won in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997 and 1998 — during every home game, flanked by banners for their nine divisional and six conference titles.
The team also displays its five retired player numbers — No. 4 for Jerry Sloan, No. 6 for Bill Russell, No. 10 for Bob Love, No. 23 for Michael Jordan and No. 33 for Scottie Pippen — in addition to honorary retired numbers for Phil Jackson and Jerry Krause.
These banners remain on display throughout Blackhawks home games and most concerts held at the United Center.
Saturday’s concert was a hometown show for Disturbed, a heavy metal band formed in Chicago in 1994. Disturbed drummer Mike Wengren could be seen wearing a Bulls jersey and a Blackhawks jersey at different points in the show.
