EastEnders’ Grant Mitchell clashes with loved ones after brother Phil’s suicide attempt before making huge decision

EASTENDERS viewers will see the fall out on the Mitchell family after Phil’s failed suicide attempt earlier this week.

BBC viewers watched as part of the EastEnders 40th anniversary storyline saw Phil put a gun to his head and frantically pull the trigger while having a mental health breakdown.

Whilst the suicide attempt failed, it still left a shocked Grant Mitchell, Linda Carter and Nigel Bates stunned at the hard man’s actions.

The distressing scenes saw an upset Phil tell the stunned trio that ‘all he does is cause pain’ and described himself as a “burden” to his loved ones.

Now in the latest scenes on the BBC soap, the aftermath of Phil’s suicide attempt and its repercussions are clear.

Viewers will watch as Grant makes a big assumption only to find himself disappointed so decides it’s time to get out of Walford.

Yet before leaving, Grant supports an unlikely source as the pair put their historic differences aside.

Later at No.55, Grant asks Nigel to move to Portugal with him, promising to support him as he copes with his dementia diagnosis.

Away from the Mitchells, the residents of Walford congregate at Harry’s Barn still reeling from the explosion earlier in the week, but the sombre occasion is the catalyst for more drama amongst the grief-stricken locals and more fall outs.

Fans have been delighted to see Grant Mitchell back on their screen, but will be left disappointed if they think he could be back as a permanent character.

Actor Ross Kemp, who has played the iconic character since he first appeared in Albert Square in 1990, told ITV’s This Morning: “I’m not doing the live, I’m no longer there, I’ve departed – not in a hearse, I hasten to add.”

Whilst it’s clear he’s not been killed off in a future storyline, it leaves the door wide open for him to return.

The actor is known for fronting documentaries such as Ross Kemp On Gangs and Ross Kemp: Extreme World away from the BBC soap.

However the BBC soap holds a special place in his heart, as he presented the anniversary special programme which aired at the weekend ahead of the week long episodes.
