There comes a time in life when the do-it-yourselfer becomes a did-it-yourselfer. The tools may be retired but the journey as a homeowner continues. That’s why the annual Edmonton Home and Garden Show holds great appeal even to “experienced” homeowners. There’s always something new to learn and the show is always very entertaining.

“The Home and Garden Show truly has something for everyone, whether you rent or own, live in a spacious house or a compact condo,” says Casey Matulic, manager for the four-day show running March 27 to 30 at the Edmonton Expo Centre. “Our exhibitors will be there to help with everything from home maintenance to making your space more accessible.”

Home improvement ideas, new technologies and creative landscape solutions are part of the show experience, however, the content also extends to hobbies. The Community Canvas featuring Edmonton artist Lorraine Shulba is a giant paint-by-numbers installation and crowd participation is welcome. Experts from local garden centres and landscape companies will offer free advice on how to grow beautiful flowers, herbs and even vegetables in containers or in a small backyard. Jorge Quintero of Churco Pickleball will make a return appearance at the Paddle Paradise feature with advice on how to play pickleball, improve your skills or build your own pickleball court.

The show will feature a Cooking Stage where local chefs will demonstrate simple, delicious home-cooked meals.

“Perfect for those wanting to make the most of their kitchen without the fuss,” Matulic says.

Main Stage presenters include Home Network’s all-Canadian real estate and renovation expert Scott McGillivray.

Many exhibitors will have products and timely advice to help right sizers looking for ways to reduce clutter and simplify their lives.

“Older attendees will find plenty to explore including health care solutions. We’ll have vendors like Bethune Oriental Medicine Centre, Congdon’s Aids to Daily Living, Healthcare Solutions, and Livewell Family Chiropractic who will provide insights on staying safe and well,” she says. “Our show attracts a wide group of people, but based on past events, the average age is around 51. This means we’re curating experiences and exhibitors that cater to both new homeowners and seasoned pros looking to enhance their living spaces.”
