My take

1. With Jake Walman sick, Mattias Ekholm resting up his battered body and injured John Klingberg on Long Term Injured Reserve, Edmonton’s in need of a d-man. Cam Dineen is ripping it up as a puck-mover this year, so he’s a solid bet.

In Bakersfield, Dineen has 43 points in 59 games, the 10th most points of any AHL d-man this year.

2. Dineen acquitted himself well enough in his one earlier game with the Oilers. He got exposed a few times on defence, but got stronger as they game went along. His main skill, passing the puck, was on display. He can rip a pass at the NHL level.

3. Dineen is a seven year pro, a long-time AHL veteran, first in Tuscon, now in Bakersfield. He’s no raw rookie, but a veteran pro joining in an Oilers team full of veteran pros. He should fit right in for a game or two.

4. With Olivier Rodrigue back to the AHL that means Stuart Skinner is ready to go Friday.

More to come…
