For Easter 1888, the Herald published a special poem written by Wesley Fletcher Orr, who was involved in the trading of buffalo bones, along with other pursuits such as real estate, the railway and stone quarries. But in 1888, Orr also worked as editor of the Herald and served as an aldermen. Six years later, he became the eighth mayor of the town Calgary. In 1894 when Orr became mayor, Calgary later that year became incorporated as a city meaning Orr was the first mayor of the city of Calgary.
