Eric Dane Reveals ALS Diagnosis Ahead Of Return To ‘Euphoria’ Set​on April 11, 2025 at 12:42 am

Euphoria and former Grey’s Anatomy star and veteran actor Eric Dane announced today that he has ALS.

Dane, 52, made the revelations in an interview with People, and said that he will continue working.

“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week,” he said. “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”

Per the Mayo Clinic, “Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis…is a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. ALS causes loss of muscle control. The disease gets worse over time.”

The condition was long called Lou Gehrig’s disease, after the Yankees great whose career ended when he was diagnosed with the condition. Its exact cause is still not known. There is currently no cure for ALS, and while treatment can’t reverse the condition, it can slow the progression of symptoms.

Dane has been married to Rebecca Gayheart since 2004 and the couple has two daughters.

“I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter,” said Dane.

Euphoria Season 3 went into production in early February 2025 after long delays on the third installment of the HBO drama series. Dane stars as Cal Jacobs, father to Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi), in Euphoria. He is set to go into production for Season 3 on Monday, Aprl 14 according to People.

Dane will be joined in Season 3 by newcomers Kadeem Hardison, musican Rosalia, former professional football player Marshawn Lynch and Darrell Britt-Gibson (She Taught Love), Priscilla Delgado (Julieta), James Landry Hébert (1883) and Anna Van Patten (Gossip Girl) in notable guest star roles.
