A woman was killed Tuesday night after her Everett apartment caught fire, officials said.

The Everett Fire Department said it responded to a call from neighbors who said they saw flames coming from one of the windows of the fourplex on the 2500 block of Grand Avenue.

Firefighters arrived shortly before 10 p.m. Crews found an unresponsive woman in the bottom-floor unit that was on fire, according to the Everett Fire Department.

Despite lifesaving measures lasting more than 45 minutes, the woman died, according to the department. The firefighters quickly extinguished the flames shortly after arriving, preventing the fire from spreading. No other residents were displaced, the fire department said.

The Everett Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the origin and cause of the fire. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the woman and determine her cause and manner of death.

The fire department offers free smoke alarm installation for low-income people, seniors and individuals with disabilities. For assistance, people can contact the Everett Fire Marshal’s Office at 425-257-8100 or via email at FMO@everettwa.gov.
