Ontario Provincial Police have confirmed that a deceased person was discovered at a fire in an apartment building in Clarence-Rockland on Sunday night.

Russell County officers were dispatched to the scene on Laurier Street at about 7 p.m. Sunday to join the Clarence-Rockland fire department. The fire was contained to a single apartment and quickly extinguished, OPP said in a news release.

Fire officers advised police that a deceased person had been located inside the apartment.

Members of the province’s Office of the Chief Coroner, as well as the fire marshal’s office and OPP forensic identification services assisted with the investigation.

“The incident and death have been determined to be non-suspicious in nature,” the OPP said in the release.

Police did not identify the victim in their release.
