B.C.’s voters are still leaning Liberal in the latest Leger poll — but the lead over the Conservatives has narrowed.

According to a Leger poll released on Wednesday, 42 per cent of voters who have decided which party they support will back Mark Carney’s Liberals, while 38 per cent will back Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives. The federal NDP are behind the pack with 12 per cent support.

Compared to a March 31 Leger poll, the Liberals have lost eight per cent of the vote, while the Conservatives are the same and the NDP has gained four per cent.

However, close to one-third of voters — 31 per cent — have not made up their mind which political party they will support in the April 28 federal election.

The Liberal lead is strongest in the City of Vancouver and more modest in the rest of the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, while the Conservatives hold a moderate lead in the rest of B.C.

Regardless of political affiliation, 52 per cent of British Columbians believe the Liberal party will win the election, which is six per cent more than two weeks ago.

Donald Trump is a key political consideration among 58 per cent of voters, with 47 per cent saying Carney was in the best position to negotiate with Trump, compared to 27 per cent for Poilievre.

Respondents were asked which of the leaders they would invite to their home for dinner, of which 27 per cent said no one, while 23 per cent would like to eat with Poilievre and 18 per cent with Carney.

Leger gathered polling data for The Vancouver Sun between April 11-14 from 501 respondents aged 18 and over. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 per cent.
