ARLINGTON, Texas — Firefighters battled a fire at an apartment complex in Arlington Wednesday evening.

The Arlington Fire Department confirmed that when firefighters arrived at the Woodcrest Apartments on College Street, heavy smoke was rising from the roof of the two-story building.

A Wind Advisory was in place for North Texas on Wednesday. Arlington FD Public Information Officer Adam Evans said the elevated winds caused the fire to quickly spread through the attics of eight units.

“We did have one handicapped resident who had trouble getting out of her apartment. Our crews went in and located her. However, she did suffer some smoke inhalation,” Evans said.

The condition of the rescued resident is unclear at this time. Thankfully, the fire department said everyone else made it out safely.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
