It is understood he was later flown to Perth Children’s Hospital, where he remained in a critical condition on Thursday.

City of Bunbury chief executive Alan Ferris said he was deeply saddened to learn about the incident, which had also impacted staff and community members who provided immediate assistance.

“Our thoughts are with the child, their family, and all involved, and everyone impacted,” he said.

“The safety and wellbeing of our community members, especially our children, is of the utmost importance to us. The City is working closely with all relevant authorities to understand the circumstances surrounding this incident.”

The museum will be closed for the remained of the week.

“The City has offered support, including counselling, to all staff involved,” Ferris said.

“We ask for the community’s understanding and patience as we address this matter with the care and attention it deserves. The museum will be closed today and tomorrow, and we will provide an update when we can.”

On Wednesday, Liberal leader Libby Mettam said the incident was “clearly a tragic accident”.

“Our hearts go out to the boy involved and his family, and we hope for a speedy recovery,” she said.
