Having stopped at a Grande Prairie corner store, Beverly Eastcott picked up a Lightning Lotto ticket with her purchase. She heard the signature bells signalling winning numbers, but it didn’t sound special.

“I was at the store and when the win came up and I didn’t even notice!” she laughed. “I heard the win
sound and was so used to $3 or $4 wins, I didn’t look up!”

Instead, Eastcott and her ticket headed home. Once there, she looked at the ticket. Instead of the typical couple of dollars she expected to see, she saw that her ticket was the ticket.
“I noticed when I got home and saw the numbers. I couldn’t believe it!” she said. “I broke a record, and
I didn’t even notice!”
When she got home, she ran inside to tell her family who were sleeping at the time. It was an exciting change that couldn’t have come at a better time.
“I think the kids are even more excited than me.”
Eastcott has ideas about what might change in their lives. Travel is high on that list. Even more appealing is a change in scenery.

“I want to be out in the country on an acreage.”
Her winning ticket, with the numbers 7, 11, 25, 28, 45, was purchased at a Circle K located at 9701 84 Avenue. It was the only winning ticket for the instant lottery in Grande Prairie since April 6, according to Western Canada Lottery Corp.’s win tracker.
The WCLC, a non-profit corporation that since 1974 has both managed and marketed gaming activities for its members. Those members today are Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and associate members, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
The Alberta Gaming Liquour & Cannibis (AGLC) conducts inspections and provides training in all three areas. It also tracks the funds generated. In the 2023/2024 year, the total net revenues from gaming was $2,529,324. The Alberta government received $1,543,781.
Once prize payouts are completed, the money goes into Alberta’s general revenue fund and is used for projects such as hospitals, schools, housing and infrastructure. Two provincial programs are specifically funded by revenue generated through gaming, liquor and cannabis sales: Community Lottery Board and the Community Facility Enhancement Program and the Community Lottery Board.
