Great Mall Milpitas is celebrating the Year of the Snake at its annual Lunar New Year event on Saturday, Feb. 8, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
Leung’s White Crane will perform lion and dragon dances at 2:30 p.m. to bring good luck and ward off evil spirits. Photo opportunities with a costumed panda will be available, and children of all ages can create culturally inspired arts and crafts and visit the silk fan calligraphy session hosted by a local artist. A fortuneteller will be on hand to give tea leaf readings to visitors who want to learn more about their futures.
The first 300 shoppers at Entrance 2 will receive red envelopes symbolizing good luck, prosperity and happiness in the new year. Five lucky winners will go home with a $250 gift card from a participating retailer, including kate spade new york, HEYDUDE, The Cosmetics Company, PUMA, Guess and more.

Funding water projects
Valley Water is accepting applications for its Standard Grant Program for community projects that promote safe, clean drinking water, water conservation, flood protection and environmental stewardship in Santa Clara County.
The 2025 Standard Grant Program offers up to $150,000 for educational projects; planning, design and environmental resource investigations; and smaller-scale implementation or capital projects focused on issues like pollution, water conservation and minor native habitat restoration. Applications are due by March 28.
Valley Water is hosting a Standard Grant Program Open House on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 9-11:30 a.m., at Valley Water headquarters, 5700 Almaden Expressway, San Jose. Virtual workshops are set for Tuesday, Feb. 18, noon-1:30 p.m., and Thursday, Feb. 27, 5-6:30 p.m.
