Tamie Konzier and her son were at an Eat’N Park diner in Pittsburgh and overheard their elderly server telling another table how she can’t afford to quit her job.

“The table next to us asked why she was still working and she told them she only makes $910 a month on social security and she has to still work because her bills exceed $910,” Konzier explained in a TikTok video.

The mom tipped Betty $40, explaining she wanted to give her a little extra after hearing of her financial struggles.

“I mean I’ve worked all my life as a waitress and I still can’t retire,” Betty told her.

After sharing that she was 81, Betty joked, “I can still outdo these whippersnappers,” before adding, “Take care and enjoy your day, enjoy it because it will go by you fast.”

Konzier pleaded with her followers to help her help Betty retire — and, boy, did the internet show up.

Since sharing the video, Konzier had to set up a GoFundMe after being inundated by people offering to donate money and wanting to help.

In one update, Konzier tearfully confirmed how overwhelmed she was by the response.

“I cannot believe this happened,” she said. “Thank you everyone for your generosity. I don’t even know her and I’m crying.”

In another update, Konzier informed everyone that she spoke with Betty, who doesn’t want to fully retire “because it keeps her going” and “gets her out of the house.”

“I’ve had some people that worked with her reach out and they’ve said such nice things about her, like she’s worked so hard and never complains and she takes care of so many people,” the Good Samaritan TikToker detailed.

The GoFundMe page, as of publication, has raised more than $257,000US, with more funds coming to Konzier through her Venmo and TikTok views.
