Cpl. Mathew Howell, public information officer for RCMP K Division’s western district, said a unit was already in the vicinity when the call came in and was able to be on scene in approximately 5 minutes.

Howell confirmed there were a total of four fatalities. One casualty was found outside the vehicle and STARS was requested in an effort to get her to advanced medical care.

There was an assumption that there was at least one more person in the truck. However, when firefighters finally extinguished the flames, they found three more people, all deceased. Their ages and genders are still unknown.

A preliminary investigation indicates the truck may have been travelling north on Range Road 161, otherwise known as the East Prairie Road, crossed Highway 2 and ended up in a driveway. Those are just the intial indications, he added. A further investigation could offer different and more detailed information.
