How To Watch

What to Know

We’ve got another exciting American Athletic matchup on schedule as the UAB Blazers and the Tulsa Golden Hurricane are set to tip at 8:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday at Donald W. Reynolds Center. The Blazers are strutting in with some offensive muscle as they’ve averaged 84.4 points per game this season.

UAB is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Memphis just ended the team’s five-game winning streak on Sunday. They wound up on the wrong side of a painful 100-77 walloping at the hands of the Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that’s the biggest loss the Blazers have suffered since February 21, 2024.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Bradley Ezewiro, who went 6 for 9 en route to 19 points plus seven rebounds. He had some trouble finding his footing against UTSA on Tuesday, so this was a step in the right direction. Another player making a difference was Efrem Johnson, who earned 21 points along with two steals.

Meanwhile, Tulsa hadn’t done well against Wichita State recently (they were 2-8 in their previous ten matchups), but they didn’t let the past get in their way on Sunday. Tulsa came out on top against Wichita State by a score of 84-77.

Tulsa’s success was spearheaded by the efforts of Dwon Odom, who almost dropped a triple-double on 17 points, nine rebounds, and ten assists, and Jared Garcia, who went 6 for 10 en route to 22 points. What’s more, Garcia also racked up three assists, the most he’s had since back in March of 2024. Keaston Willis was another key player, going 5 for 8 en route to 17 points.

UAB’s defeat dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Tulsa, their win bumped their record up to 9-11.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: UAB has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 40.8 rebounds per game. However, it’s not like Tulsa struggles in that department as they’ve been averaging 38. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we’ll see if one team can grab an edge.

Everything came up roses for UAB against Tulsa in their previous matchup on January 4th, as the team secured an 83-51 victory. In that game, UAB amassed a halftime lead of 42-22, an impressive feat they’ll look to repeat on Wednesday.

Series History

UAB has won both of the games they’ve played against Tulsa in the last year.
