A semitruck crashed with a car and caught fire early Tuesday on Interstate 405 in Renton, blocking northbound traffic at the exit to Sunset Boulevard Northeast.
The semi crashed around 4:15 a.m., according to the state Department of Transportation. There was no estimated time for northbound lanes to fully reopen, Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson posted on X at 5 a.m.
The trooper described injuries from the collision as “minor.”
Traffic cameras showed smoke billowing from scene.
“Tow trucks on the way but this will take a while to clean up,” Johnson wrote.
As of 6:30 a.m., the right two lanes of I-405 remained blocked. Backups stretched for miles during an icy morning commute.
