‘I was scared of everything and everyone’ Charleen Murphy marks two years since attack

It has been a tough two years for influencer Charleen Murphy as she has pushed her way through fear and anxiety after she was attacked in Dublin.

Charleen sustained a substantial injury when she was attacked while having dinner in a lounge at Grafton Capital Hotel. Nine months later her attacker, Craig O’Brien, 28, was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

This month she spoke about her ordeal, marking two years since the horrific incident took place and thanked those who helped her along the way.

Posting several pictures, she said: ‘Today marks 2 years since I was attacked whilst sitting down having dinner with a friend. February 10th will always feel heavy every year, knowing what I went through but I also feel proud of the journey I have been on.’

Thinking back, she continued: ‘I remember flying home from visiting Dano who lived in England at the time and having a knot in my stomach about landing in the country I loved and lived in.

‘A country that I usually would’ve had such a sense of comfort landing in, felt so alien and scary to me. I thought I would never feel genuinely happy again or have any feeling of safety. I wish I could go back and promise her that she will feel so much happiness again.’

After the attack, Charleen was terrified to head out and about. She said: ‘I was scared of everything and everyone, things I never would’ve second guessed I found myself overthinking. I felt weak and it took so much pushing myself to make sure that I didn’t feel like that forever.’

However, if it wasn’t for those around her, she wouldn’t feel the strength that she feels today.

‘I’m so grateful for the beautiful community I have on here and my family, friends and Dano for supporting me in ways you don’t even realise.’

Passing on advice to others who may have experienced something similar she said: ‘For anyone going through trauma or problems of any kind who feels like they have lost themselves in the process, I promise you that you will get yourself back and you will be shining brighter than ever… To more happiness and more life.’

Charleen shared the news of her attack on Instagram in February 2023 shortly after it had occurred reminding people that while being online can be beneficial in so many ways, it can also put you in danger.

‘There remains a very dark side to social media that I have become a victim of in a way I could never have imagined,’ she said at the time.
