With Broad City in their rearview, Ilana Glazer is plotting their return to television.
The Emmy winner recently revealed that they’re developing a series with nods to Sex and the City, which they said will focus on the “woman and gay guy friendship.”
“I’m writing a show right now. I’m doing a rewrite actually of this draft right now,” they said on the Dinner’s on Me podcast. “It’s like Sex and the City with two women and two gay guys. ‘Cause the woman and gay guy friendship is a big deal.
“My first best friend is my brother, [who is a] gay guy. All of my best friends growing up are gay boys. I want it to be them,” added Glazer.
Watch on Deadline
After launching the show as a web series from 2009-2011, Broad City caught the eye of executive producer Amy Poehler and landed a five-season run on Comedy Central from 2014-2019.
Broad City saw Glazer and Abbi Jacobson play fictional versions of themselves, best friends chasing their dreams and getting into shenanigans in New York City. The show’s final season saw Abbi leaving the city to pursue an art program in Colorado while Ilana stayed to start her career as a sex therapist and launch her “wusiness” (woman-owned business), a line of wigs for your phone.
Since Broad City‘s run, Glazer has appeared on the Apple TV+ series The Afterparty, as well as the films False Positive and Babes.
