Jean Bryne hits the red carpet in rare public outing since retirement

It doesn’t feel like three years since RTÉ meteorologist Jean Byrne ‘quietly’ retired from Met Eireann after 25 years, gracing our screens with the latest weather reports.

The veteran reporter kept her departure under wraps at the end of 2021 as she didn’t want any fuss made over it or her last time delivering the forecast. The news eventually came out in January 2022.

Since then she has kept a low profile so it was lovely to see her pop up on the red carpet of a special preview screening of An Taibhse (The Ghost ) at the Savoy Cinema, alongside fellow weather and RTE continuity presenter Audrey McGrath looking as stylish as ever.

The Kerrywoman first made her appearance on screens back in 1996 and was a staple figure over the years always popular with viewers not just for her weather reports but for the number of daring outfits she donned on the TV when talking about wind, rain and showers!

In 2019, the presenter, revealed that a good deal of her famous ensembles over the years were from her own wardrobe.

An Taibhse unfolds in the bleak landscape of post-famine Ireland and centres around Éamon (Tom Kerrisk) and his daughter Máire (Livvy Hill), who take on the task of maintaining a remote mansion , only to be driven to  the edge of sanity by the horrors lurking within.

Their task, initially serene, veers into terror as they encounter inexplicable phenomena. The film explores the depths of human resilience in the face of unspeakable horror.
