Joe McMahon and Martin Corey step down from Meath management team

MEATH have been dealt a massive blow just days out from their championship opener against Carlow with Joe McMahon and Martin Corey both stepping down from their roles as members of Robbie Brennan’s management team.

The Royals competed in Division Two of this years National League and finished in third position, just behind promoted duo Monaghan and Roscommon, and were well in the promotion shake up heading into the final round of fixtures.

Meath begin their championship campaign next Sunday when they welcome Carlow to Páirc Tailteann, Navan and their opponents have had their own managerial problems of late, with manager Shane Curran recently stepping down based on “player-related issues.”

In a statement released on Saturday, Meath GAA said: “Following the conclusion of the Allianz Football Football League, Joe McMahon and Martin Corey have stepped down from their roles as Selectors/Coaches with the Meath Senior Football Team.

“Robbie Brennan and the Meath Co. Management Committee thank both Joe and Martin for their efforts since their appointment and wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

“The Senior Football panel and management continue their preparations for the opening round of the Leinster SFC against Carlow. There is no further comment to make at this time.”
