Karen Byrne spoke for the nation when she declared Kevin Dundon a ‘big softie’ after his dance during Dancing With The Stars’ dedication week!
The chef went all out performing a Tango which he dedicated to his wife of 30 years Catherine who was in the audience and cheering him on.
Sweetly, Kevin paid tribute to the start of their romance with the routine as it threw it back to how he and Catherine met all those years ago at a disco.
‘Catherine is the rock of our family,’ Kevin said before taking to the dancefloor. ‘When you meet the love of your life, it’s a moment, and 30 years later we’re still having those moments.’
Kevin and Catherine both still strongly remember the moment they locked eyes on each other, with Catherine recalling how she was wearing her ‘lucky yellow jumpsuit’ on that fateful night.
Giving a nod to this, Kevin’s pro dancer partner Rebecca Scott wore an outfit with yellow on for their Tango routine which saw the chef throw his hips into the moves and impress the judges.
The duo put on a fabulous show on the dancefloor and as they came to stand with Jennifer Zamparelli to hear their feedback Kevin blew a kiss to Catherine. Aw!
‘Kevin you big softie.. and did I see a bit of coordination?,’ Karen delightfully declared after the routine, clearly impressed with their efforts.
Perhaps nailing why Kevin did so well this week, she added: ‘Your dance is dedicated to your wife and it gave a bit of extra pressure, I could see you looking towards her in the audience.’
Kevin could not stop smiling as he talked about Catherine and it sounded like she was just as into making the routine a true nod to their love story as well.
Beaming a grin, Kevin replied that he ‘could see her red shoes’ just like the lyric in the Bowie song, Let’s Dance, that he was dancing to.
Judge Arthur Gourounlian was also impressed with the performance saying it was ‘pure class’ while Brian Redmond joked that he bet Kevin ‘didn’t dance like that in nightclubs in the 80s!’
After heading to Doireann Garrihy’s den to receive their scores Kevin said: ‘I’m delighted and thrilled [with the comments] and to [dance this week] for my beautiful wife, it’s even better.
‘I’ve never seen my family as excited for anything I’ve done in my life than they are for Dancing With The Stars… even my son who’s in the audience, he is gonna get such a slagging at school!’
Kevin and Rebecca’s efforts paid off with them receiving 22 points from the judges, their highest score of the series so far.
