The Kansas Highway Patrol officer with their criminal interdiction unit had stopped an SUV for a traffic violation, where there were two elderly men along with a little girl in the backseat.
Kansas Highway Patrol wrote in a Facebook post that the passenger in the front seat “had a warrant out for his arrest from another state for kidnapping a six-year-old girl just over a month prior.”
The driver also had a lengthy criminal history that included “homicide and numerous weapons violations,” KHP noted.
The trooper, along with a deputy from a local sheriff’s office arrested the men, and took the girl to safety.
Cops said the girl — who was not identified — was “coached” by one of the captors in their 60s to give a fake name in order to “keep the adult out of jail.”

However, officers were able to put the girl at ease and got her to “tell him her real name.”
KHP added that the girl was unharmed and both men were taken into custody.
The division also shared two photos of the black SUV stopped on the side of a highway, including one that showed a man putting his hands above his head next to the vehicle.
The second photo shows a girl with her back turned, talking to a different man as he points to the police vehicle.
Police did not give specific details about case, including where or when the vehicle was pulled over, or where the girl was taken from, explaining they are protecting the child’s identity and “integrity of open cases.”

They did share their appreciation for all the support they have received, adding: “This is an incredible story that highlights the unpredictable nature of a trooper’s job and the real impact they can have on people’s lives.”
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
