L.A. Fires: Sepulveda Fire Breaks Out Near Bel-Air Before Crews Get The Upper Hand On It​on January 23, 2025 at 8:54 am

A brush fire broke out on the east side of the Sepulveda Pass near Bel-Air at about 11 p.m. Wednesday night. The blaze spread to 20 acres and prompted an evacuation warning before firefighters got the upper hand on it. See map of the evacuation warning zone below.

Additionally, the southbound 405 Freeway was closed down for a time just north of the Getty Center. It was later reopened.

The fire was burning in heavy brush with a moderate rate of spread about a mile from the eastern edge of the area scorched by the Palisades Fire. Firefighting aircraft were drawing water from the nearby Stone Canyon Reservoir.

The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert for the closure of the Getty Center Drive off-ramps of the northbound and southbound 405 Freeway due to the Sepulveda Fire. Motorists were advised to avoid the area or seek alternate routes.

Winds in the area were out of the north at 8-15 mph, with gusts to 25 mph. According to the National Weather Service, winds were expected to turn more northeasterly overnight and increase toward daybreak. Relative humidity was very low, between 3-8%.

While the fire seemed to be subdued by 1 a.m., firefighters were keeping an eye out for hot spots as the wind was expected to pick up at about daybreak.
